can we say 'no' to sausages?

This post was inspired by my 3-year-old son whose love for eating sausages got me thinking.  He insists his endearment name is "sausage" - thus, it cracks my whole household up when we have to say to him "Goodnite, sausage."

WHO (World Health Organisation) recently issued a definitive statement that processed meat are carcinogenic and red meat are 'probably carcinogenic'.  WHO had highlighted the hazards of eating red meat, especially processed meat for many years.  Now they are just reiterating the same statement but with more conviction.  For every 50 gram portion of processed meat eaten daily, your cancer risks are increased by about 18%.

A traditional sausage is made out of meat (if any), fat, binders, seasoning and a list of preservatives which you can barely pronounce.   Are we not surprised that processed meat increases your cancer risks?

The table below analyses the protein content of chicken meat and chicken sausage - the protein content of the chicken sausage is only a third that of chicken meat!  Frozen sausages are cheap because fillers (such as starch) are used to increase the weight of sausages.  Nothing nutritious in them.

But then, what do you do when your child insists on eating sausages? Here's my take on healthy sausages - fish sausage! These sausages are made out of pure fish meat and lighly seasoned with salt and pepper.
